Nick and Patti 3

Nick Cave

Nick Cave

Like the film Fight Club, the music of Nick Cave is an expression of ‘what lurks beneath’.   Musically thrilling, with lyrics both savage and tender many of his songs deal with the addiction, desperation and violence that for so many people are everyday experiences in everyday life.  Heavy yes, but somehow, the confrontation of these realities is basically a spiritual understanding of despair and its opposite, upon which his songs pour so much light.

Patti Smith

Patti Smith is perhaps one of the most famous creative exponents of Blake of the current time. She was encountered as a fellow Blakean by Mental Fight Club members who attended the inspirational lecture she gave for the Blake Society, in his baptismal church, St James of Piccadilly.   She is a living reminder of Blake’s emergence as an inspirational figure in the alternative and peace movements both in Europe and America in the nineteen sixties.

We explored the music of Nick Cave, Patti Smith and musicians from all traditions in February 2013 @ The Dragon Café.
